Founded by Wes Dooley in 1965 as Audio Engineering Associates, AEA has become an essential reference in the world of ribbon microphones. Since 1976, the company based in Pasadena, California, has specialized in the repair, restoration, and manufacturing of ribbon microphones, perpetuating a legendary sonic heritage.
In 1998, AEA reached a major milestone by producing 100% of the parts for the iconic RCA 44, before launching its own version, the R44C, a faithful reproduction of the legendary RCA 44BX microphone. Since then, the brand has continued to innovate while remaining true to the soul of the ribbon, with entirely handcrafted manufacturing.
AEA offers a wide range of ribbon microphones for professional studio, stage, and broadcast:
Every AEA microphone is hand-assembled in their Pasadena workshop with extremely tight tolerances. The ribbon transducers are made from a thin sheet of pure aluminum, capturing every nuance with unmatched smoothness and harmonic richness. Whether you choose a passive or active model, each AEA microphone delivers the sound quality that has made the greatest recording studios famous.
To get the most out of their ribbon microphones, AEA also offers a range of preamplifiers specially designed for them:
