An AAF is a dump of the video editor's timeline: hundreds of clips on unorganised tracks, inconsistent naming, no content classification. Before any creative work begins, every clip has to be identified as dialogue, music or effects, tracks grouped and renamed, colours applied, timecode and sample and frame rates verified, and the facility routing template rebuilt. It repeats identically on every new cut. fPost Studio does the whole thing automatically: what takes 30 minutes to 2 hours by hand takes about 30 seconds.

It imports into your template, not into its own

You upload the Pro Tools template you have refined over years, with your routing, plugins, track names and colours, and decide which template track receives each category. fPost then duplicates your template tracks and places the clips on the duplicates, so plugins, sends and routing all carry over intact. The result is genuinely your session, not the tool's idea of one. Import never touches existing routing: it only adds tracks and clips. Save the whole configuration as a preset and switch per project type, film, episodic or commercial, straight from the main window.

Classification from three independent signals

Dialogue, music and effects classification combines three sources of evidence for every clip: industry naming conventions read by a dedicated name engine, embedded broadcast metadata written by the recordist on set, and a local machine-learning model cascade running entirely on the Mac. The three are combined by weighted voting with plausibility corrections, so strong evidence from any source can win and agreement between sources produces high-confidence results. Matching left and right mono files are detected and locked as indivisible stereo pairs before classification, and clips sharing a name are kept together on the same track, which is how editors actually think about their material.

Frame-accurate timecode, and a backup before anything is touched

A clip sitting at 01:00:05:12 in the editor's timeline lands at 01:00:05:12 in the session. Timecode is displayed as HH:MM:SS:FF throughout, and manual offset control handles sessions whose program start differs from the AAF. Before touching anything, fPost saves an identical carbon copy of the original AAF automatically.

See the AAF before you commit

The built-in visualizer shows the full contents of the AAF on a timeline with clip playback, so you can audition material before importing. Clip metadata is available on hover, and fPost detects which editing software generated the AAF so you can anticipate compatibility quirks. Selected clips can be exported as WAV files with multi-selection, without opening the DAW at all. Matching mono left and right pairs can be converted to a single interleaved stereo file during import. You can also start from an existing Pro Tools session rather than an AAF and reconstruct its contents in the visualizer.

Fully on-device

All analysis and classification run locally on the user's Mac, with no cloud processing and no uploads. This matters to facilities handling pre-release or confidential material.
